JioHotstar has been finally launched in India by merging JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar. The new JioHotstar platform aims to provide an extensive content library, featuring international blockbusters, Indian originals, regional films, and live sports, all under one roof.
It has integrated Hotstar’s vast catalog of Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, and Pixar content with JioCinema’s HBO and Peacock licensed series and movies. The platform will continue streaming IPL, ICC cricket tournaments, FIFA World Cup, and major sporting events.
JioHotstar’s launch marks a major shift in India’s streaming landscape, posing a strong challenge to Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. By combining Hotstar’s premium international content and streaming tech with Jio’s aggressive pricing strategy, the platform is expected to attract millions of new subscribers.
What happens to existing subscribers of JioCinema and Hotstar
Existing JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar subscribers will have a smooth transition to JioHotstar. They don’t need to do anything.
- JioCinema users: Existing subscriptions are automatically transferred with no extra charges until renewal.
- Disney+ Hotstar users: Can continue using their current login details. Their active plans will remain valid until expiration.
Disney+ Hotstar users might have already noticed the new JioHotstar icon and updated on their phone, tablet or TV. All the JioCinema movies and series are now available to watch on this new JioHotstar platform.

The company says that anyone can watch JioHotstar free of cost right now. This means that you don’t need any subscription to watch JioHotstar Movies or TV shows.
