Netflix’s Scandal is a television adaptation of the 2003 South Korean film Untold Scandal, which was itself inspired by the French novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses. Set in the Joseon Dynasty, the story follows elite aristocrats entangled in a dangerous game of seduction, deception, and revenge.
The original Untold Scandal movie follows story of Jo Won (played by Bae Yong-joon), a charming but manipulative nobleman, and Madam Jo (Lee Mi-sook), a powerful widow. They make a dangerous bet: Jo Won must seduce Madam Suk (Jeon Do-yeon), a deeply religious woman, before he can claim his ultimate prize—Madam Jo herself. However, as emotions become real, their carefully crafted schemes spiral out of control, leading to tragic consequences.
